Bug Evolution Challenge Tips: Hide, Escape and Evolve

Bug Evolution challenge tips: hide where your bug's body fits, run opposite a bigger pursuer, and weigh Colossus, Vitality and Gluttony for survival.

Quick answer

When a predator chases you, get under cover and stay still. When a bigger bug is after you, run the opposite way it is heading. Pick evolutions for the survival effect you need: health, size or faster experience.

  • A narrow gap between props is cover if your bug's body fits; a thick body may not fit the same gap.
  • Once under cover, stay still and do not come out — a pursuer cannot catch a hidden player.
  • A larger pursuer may switch to chasing bigger bugs instead.
  • Colossus adds health and size, Vitality adds health, and Gluttony adds +10% experience for everything you eat.

Hiding from predators

A small bug is hard to see, and being small is part of what makes it hard for other creatures to notice. A thin, round-bodied bug also hides well. When a predator comes after you, get under cover, stay still, and do not come out.

Cover is often a tight space, such as a narrow gap between props. Not every bug can use a given spot: a thin, flat bug can slip into a gap that a large, thick-bodied bug may not fit through, so the same gap may work for one bug and not another.

For where to find cover as you move through the world, see the Bug Evolution areas guide.

When a larger bug chases you

Go the opposite way from where it is heading. A larger pursuer may head for bigger bugs instead, which can leave you uncaught.

Do not count on open ground. If a creature stumbles onto you while you are not hidden, even small creatures can damage and eat you, and in a direct encounter the bigger bug has the advantage.

Evolving keeps attacks off you

While a bug is evolving, other bugs cannot attack it. Not finishing the evolution keeps that protection up, so an evolving bug can avoid being attacked.

One evolution choice offered Colossus, Swiftness or Vitality; another offered Vitality or Gluttony.

Comparison

Comparison
Evolution optionWhat it gives youWhen it fits your run
ColossusHealth, plus a bigger bodyYou want more health and the size advantage in encounters, and you accept that a thick body may not fit a narrow hiding spot.
VitalityHealthYou want a straightforward health boost.
Gluttony+10% experience for everything you eatYou want each meal to move your experience further.

A bigger body is an advantage in encounters, but it can work against hiding: a thick body may not fit the narrow gaps a thin bug uses, so Colossus favors winning encounters over squeezing out of sight.
